Eighth Inning Lifts Half Trax to Eighth Straight Home Win
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Champion City Half Trax (12-7) continued their winning streak at home with a magical run against the Kokomo Creek Chubs (8-11) on Tuesday (June 16) night at Carleton Davidson Stadium.
A late rally in the bottom of the eighth inning turned a 2-0 deficit into a 5-2 lead as the Half Trax stayed perfect at home with a 5-4 win over the Creek Chubs.
Kokomo broke the scoreless duel in the fifth inning with a run scored on a RBI single before they added a second run in the seventh inning with a solo shot to left field.
After being scoreless for the first seven plus innings, the Half Trax put together a five-run frame to stun the Creek Chubs. Dane Perry sent an one-out double to the center field fence. A passed ball moved Perry to third before Jaxon Brown walked, forcing a pitching change. Jayden Jaramillo walked to load the bases with one out. Nate Lloyd scored two runs with a two-run single to right field, tying the game at two with Perry and Brown scoring. Pinch hitter Luke McClure beat out a double play ball to score Jaramillo as Champion City led 3-2. A walk to Miguel Nixon and two wild pitches put runners on the corners with two outs. An error by the shortstop on a Hunter Fryman ground ball cleared the bases, capping a five run inning.
The Creek Chubs made things interesting in the ninth inning, as a two-run double closed the gap to 5-4. The Half Trax got the final out of the inning via a Miles Whitesell strikeout.
Kokomo led the hit column 10-6 but Lloyd had two hits for the Half Trax in his summer debut. Cody Croxford, Perry, Brown and Simon Slapeta all had hits.
Caleb Boff limited the Creek Chubs to one run in 4.2 innings with two walks allowed and six strikeouts. Joey Frisk allowed one run in 2.1 innings via the solo home run in the 7th. Landon Bowden (W, 1-0) completed a scoreless eighth inning. Abe Crall gave up two runs in the ninth and Whitesell got his first save of the summer.
